High riskA game platform built on user-created worlds, chat, and constant social interaction.
Start here — 3 things to do today
- 1
Enable Account Restrictions
Settings → Privacy → Account Restrictions. Turn this on before your child starts adding friends or exploring new games.
- 2
Set chat to friends only
Settings → Privacy → Contact Settings and reduce chat and messaging access to Friends only.
- 3
Add a parent PIN for spending and settings
Settings → Parent Controls and create a PIN so purchases and privacy changes need your approval.
- 4
Set up the parent dashboard at roblox.com/parents
Link your email and open the expanded Parental Controls to block specific games, set daily screen-time limits, and cap monthly spending (rolled out 2025-2026).
What parents worry about most
Roblox moderation cannot catch all predatory behaviour. Controls reduce risk, but regular conversations about chat, gifts, and strangers still matter.
The one thing to do right now
Account Restrictions plus Friends-only chat removes most casual stranger contact risk immediately.
New in 2026
Chat now requires a facial age check and is grouped by estimated age, and new Roblox Kids and Select account types keep younger children inside age-rated experiences. Pick the account type that matches your child's age.

Inappropriate user-created content

Robux spending pressure
HighCosmetics, upgrades, and social status cues push children toward repeated spending and requests for more currency.
Fake free Robux scams
MediumChildren are commonly targeted with phishing links, fake codes, and promises that ask for passwords or personal details.
Sleep disruption
LowThe game loop and social pull make it easy for sessions to stretch far past the planned stop time.

Link your parent email
Visit roblox.com/parents and attach a parent email so you receive account notices and recovery options.
- 5
Review the friend list every month
Friends tab → open the full friend list together and remove anyone your child cannot identify in real life.
- 6
Understand the new age check for chat
Since early 2026 Roblox requires a facial age estimate (or ID for 13+) before any chat works, and it sorts users into age bands so adults can no longer freely message much younger players. If your child cannot chat, this check is why — decide together whether to complete it.
- 7
Use the right account type for their age
Roblox now offers Roblox Kids (ages 5-8) and Roblox Select (ages 9-15) accounts that limit experiences to age-appropriate maturity levels and auto-transition as the child gets older (rolling out June 2026). Choose the matching account rather than a standard one for younger children.
- 8
Use the expanded parent dashboard
At roblox.com/parents you can now block specific games, approve individual experiences, manage chat settings, and set screen-time and spending limits through age 15 — review these alongside the on-device controls below.
- 9
Set device-level time limits
Use iPhone Screen Time, Android Family Link, Windows Family Safety, or macOS Screen Time to put Roblox on a hard stop.
